Going gaga over Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter

I am personally a fan of Trader Joe's, way back 2008. I went on a US vacation and stayed with my aunt and uncle's place in Daly City, California. The neighborhood Trader Joe's is just walking distance so everytime we need to stock up, we have ther ever reliable TJ to help us hehe!

Now, I see their #1 and best selling product over the social media (Facebook, Instagram) about this much coveted spread. I saw Quina Pastry Shop and Restaurant 's Facebook account once they were selling limited number of jars and it didn't even reach the stores since upon posting it online, it already got sold out. So what the fuss about the cookie butter is all about????

  • Imagine that it's peanut butter but made of cookies instead of peanuts
  • They said it's like a spreadable gingerbread
  • Perfect on spreading on your melba toasts, bread, cookies, or using it for baking
  • With my Googling powers,"Speculoos" are spiced cookies popular in France, Belgium, Netherlands during the holidays

Next time Quina gets a new batch to resell, I will definitely get one! They sell it at Php 425.00 per bottle. Super curious what's the fuss all about? My taste buds are sooo excited!!

Retro is "in": Casio A178 Gold Vintage Watch

I first liked Michael Kors' gold chrono watch.  But when I tried my friend's watch on my wrist, it looked too gigantic!! Hehe. On top of that, the price is too steep for a cheapo like me hehe!

Michael Kors gold chrono watch

I've been hunting for alternatives to it like Swatch, Anne Klein, Kenneth Cole, and finally.. Casio! I've keep on seeing this particular one, the A178 model, most especially on bloggers who wear it together with their arm candies beside it. I think it's the perfect size as well (not too big and not too small).

Then I saw an online seller in instagram, Watchbox, selling authentic Casio, Anne Klein, and Fossil watches. Upon posting that it has stocks of Casio A178 model, I immediately placed my order and paid my deposit. Voila!!! I sent a picture of my deposit slip and she sent a pic of my package about to e delivered to confirm if my shipping details are correct. After 1 day of paying, my package was delivered to my doorstep! Easy, breezy shopping experience!

Upon opening the box, this is what you get to see

See the Casio A178 model tag and the brochure inside the watch stand

Contact details of Watchbox included. Highly recommended! Go check out their items!

Why I love the Casio A178?
  • Classic retro! Definitely a fashion statement
  • Inexpensive alternative to your much coveted gold watch
  • It has an alarm (selected time, daily/weekly/monthly, hourly), dual time, stop watch too!
  • Water resistant
  • Illuminates at night
  • 10 year battery life
  •

Super excited to wear my Casio A178!

Nails of the Week: Orly in Basket Case

Infairness to Orly, it stays longer than OPI or Essie. My previous polish color, Lollipop stayed without chipping for 5 days, on the 6th day, super chaka na siya! Hehehe :) Since Lollipop was more of the Lilac, I chose one now that is Stabilo Pink / Carnation Pink in color.

Food Trip: Quina Pastry Shop and Restaurant

I love random plans... unplanned get togethers, unplanned meet ups are sometimes the most exciting. One day, me and my friend just planned out of the blue to try this newest comfort food place in Marikina. Too bad I wasn't able to take pictures of the place but it was al fresco, definitely homey, and I love how they decorated the place (from the tables, the wall decor, the comfort room). The servers were very nice too. Sharing with you (just pictures from my phone since I was too hungry to pull out my camera hehe!)

Adobo sa gata. This is what my friend ordered. A "gata" lover, she loved this!

Buffalo wings. Personally, I'm not a buffalo wings fan. I'd rather have chicken tenders. Hehehe! But this one, the dip just nailed it. Yummmmehh!! Good for 2-3 persons too!

Roast beef with rice. I soooo love their roast beef! Very tender and the sauce is just perfect.

Chocolate Cake! Their best seller!! Very moist and in between the chiffon layers lies the special chocolate icing

Definitely, I will do a "field trip" again to Quina and try the other dishes. Next on my list would be prolly Chicken cordon bleu and their Pasta dishes. I was told that the recipes were family favorites that they get to share with us! Homecooked meals at its best! And oh before I forget, since I'm a mojito lover, they make one of the best mojitos!!!

Should you be in the Marikina/Pasig/Cainta area or wants to have a random foodtrip, do check out Quina!! I remember our bill was Php 630 and we went home SUPER DUPER FULL. We even took home excess buffalo wings and chocolate cake! Definitely gives you your money's worth. Have to give them five stars!

Ghetto S Travels: Hawaii -- Wake me up in Waikiki (Day 1)

Wow...I didn't realize that the ghettos was MIA for more than a year.  Our excuse was we were both busy but I guess it was just lack of time management. After all, ghettos are ghettos. lol.  Anyway, so I was quite lucky to close my 2012 with a fantastic trip to not just anywhere but in one of the places in my bucket list--Hawaii!!!

Ignorance excuses no one and although I love geography as a subject, I still didn't know that Hawaii has 8 islands consisting of : Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui and the island of Hawaiʻi. The latter is the largest and is often called "The Big Island" to avoid confusion with the state as a whole.  Oahu also known as "The Gathering Place", is the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands and the most populous of the islands in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The state capital, Honolulu, is on Oʻahu's southeast coast. That is where I went.

Hawaii took my breathe away.  It was very beautiful.  We stayed there for 5 days only leaving after Christmas in the Manila and arriving Christmas in Oahu.  So I actually had 2 Christmases which is pretty amazing.  5 days was not enough to go around the island but we have to make the best out of our trip there.  I was lucky enough that I had a very good friend of mine in the island who was kind enough to welcome me to her home and took me around the island.

We were famished when we arrived so my friend took us at Eggs and Everything.  It is a famous brekkie hangout place in Oahu.
Best braekfast!  Thanks to the Monsale's for taking us there.  But I think it was expensive.  One order without the drinks costs 13.5 USD without tax.  The serving is quite big so you can actually share it.

After filling our tummies, we are now ready to start our first day adventure and our first trip is Waikiki.  We spent our first day walking around the famous Waikiki.  By first day, I mean after we freshened up from the Airport straight from our 10 hr flight.  But there is no time to waste.  I am in an amazing race adventure.  First off, we strolled along the shopping area.  The hot bods walking were already divine sites to adore.  Can't help but took a few photos of some abs to show Ghetto B.  As I walk past the shopping stores and surfer dudes walking, I am thinking about Ghetto B and wondered in my mind what kind of ghettoness will she exhibit on that area.  At this point, we all know that Ghetto B can simply surprise me with her over the top ghettoness.  I pay respect to the fact that she is the queen of ghettos.  And oh, did I mention that it is legal to walk around the streets of Hawaii dressed in your lingerie disguised as swimsuit?  Well a lot of people there were walking half naked and stand tall as if they are in some corporate attire and yet no one cares. Maybe except some ghetto.
Ghetto S in the shopping area of Waikiki.

Waikiki Beach

It was my first ever to enter my favorite store! Victoria's Secret!!! If there was no one looking, I would have kissed the floor for good luck--good luck enough to earn me a spot as a Victoria's Secret angel perhaps?

After strolling past the Waikiki shopping area, it was our time to lounge on the beach for a little while and admire the beauty of waikiki.  The beach is pretty crowded.  As in crowded with surfers and "sun tanners" despite the fact that it was cold (it was winter season in Decemeber, they call it winter because its cold but there is no snow so don't bring a jacket, a cardigan will do) in all shapes and sizes and ages. It would be nice to bring some flash cards there to score the passerby but i opted not to because I love my life. And oh, there are surf rentals everywhere too.

Since it is Christmas Day after all. Some friends of my friend, Julie was super kind enough to open their home to us to have Christmas dinner with them ala Hawaiian style?  Well thats what I keep on calling it.

Simple breathtaking, isn't it?  The weather was gloomy that day so the sky isn't blue. So imagine if it was sunny today.

View from their house.  My friend told me that it was even more beautiful there had the weather been good.

Christmas in Hawaii with an old girlfriend:) I haven't seen this girl for more than a decade and it was really great catching up with her.  Lucky Me!

I will tell you about my 2nd day and more of my Hawaii island adventure on my next post.

Until then ghettos!

P.S. Please feel free to ask me any questions about Hawaii because I may have the tendency to forget some information to share here and I will gladly answer them for you.

Ghetto B shares: What's in your Makeup Kit?

I first fell in love with makeup and skincare with my "mentor/guru/consultant/sister/friend/make up artist expert" all rolled into one, Askmewhats! I clearly remember how I volunteered to be her guinea pig when she was starting to practice make up. My acidic and oily face was her canvass haha! I still remember the day she wrote her first post on her blog and how her dear brother pushed her to write more. Fast forward to now, she still IS my #1 beauty consultant and beauty supplier as well hehehe!! I love the lootbags she surprises as all the time! Sharing is caring :p

Anyways, the contents of my make up kit are "inspired" by the things I learned from her. Like to get a foundation lighter than my skin tone, a universal blush that looks good on almost all kinds of skin to me, to prep the lips before applying lipstick by using a lip balm first and many more. Take a peek of what's inside my makeup kit :)
My newest make up kit! Tory Burch!! Gifted to me by one of the bosses at work! SUPER LOVE!. It is very roomy and spacious!
See!!?? Isn't it the cutest?
Here's a quick background of my everyday makeup routine. Before I leave the house, I make sure that I have already applied BB cream on my face or a makeup primer or moisturizer (depends on my mood! hehehe). I do my makeup in the car for the whole duration of my travel from our house to the office. I have been expert on that :p The contents of my makeup kit are very basic. I don't even have eyeshadow in it. I just need the essentials. Each items is numbered so I can explain in detail hehehe! Sorry for the preschooler look. Hahaha! I just used MS Paint to put the numbers :p

  1. Nyx concealer in a jar - this is my second pot! Best underye concealer I have ever tried. Best in coverage and best in price! I was told this is like a Makeup For Ever dupe :)
  2. Mac studio fix in NC40 - my forever foundation. If I will be trapped in an island and have to bring one makeup, I have to say it's my NC40. The good thing about this is that I can use it light or build coverage. I'm acidic so after a few minutes of application of this, it blends into my skin perfectly :)
  3. Nars blush in orgasm -hands down, best blush ever! I like that it has subtle gold speckles. And it compliments my skin tone (i'm morena/olive). I like the peachy pink effect of it. I have been very loyal with it already since 2008.
    1. Prestige blush brush - I have tried several blush brushes but this one has the perfect bristles. It picks up the right amount of blush I need. Not to heavy and not too light. I have this with me for years now. I just take care of it so we can still have more years to share. Hehe! It also has the right length so it fits all of my make up kits before and now.
  4. Skinfood eyebrow pencil in choco - Before, I would just use eyebrow pencils when I have an exra special thing to go to. My first eyebrow powder pencil was from L'oreal and it was like a gasoline on a Ford expedition --- it goes by so fast! Hehehe! Then I was gifted by a Skinfood gift certificate one time and I bought this one. From then on, I loved it! It's very inexpensive and it really delivers/does the job! I think they only have 2-3 shades. I got the choco powder one. I love that it is 2-way (one has a brush and one has the pencil) so after I line my brows, I get to brush it for a natural look.
  5. Maybelline Baby lips lip balm in mint - I always have chapped lips so it's a must for me to put some balm before lipstick or lipgloss. I lost my Carmex. It's one of the best! I also finishesd my Kiehl's lipbalm #1. So from then, I wanted to try an inexpensive lip balm. I was intrigued by the cute packaging so I gave in. Not bad!! :)
  6. Covergirl lipstick - I got my first Covergirl lipstick from Nikki (my beauty supply Santa Clause!). Since then, I liked it! Probably the best drugstore lipstick (beating Maybelline and Revlon in my opinion). I think it has the same level of quality as Mac in terms of longevity and the feeling of it in my lips. I need a lipstick that I can use everyday to work, with the quality of a Mac but at a price of a drugstore brand. I have with me Covergirl 235 in Fervor. Sometimes it does look like a Mac satin in retro (my first Mac lipstick!)
  7. Mac satin lipstick in mocha - I need an alternate to my Covergirl lipstick on days I feel I need to feel extra pretty. This one is more of the nude side.
  8. Maybelline gel liner in black - It's been a while since I bought an eye liner. I got my first liner back in 2008, when I bought a Revlon gel liner. Compared to Revlon, I love Maybelline more. I like that the gel is pigmented. Just the right amount of gel since I won't get to use a full pot anyways. I used this during our Christmas parties and tried extending my liner to have a "wing" and it got good reviews. Hahahaha! Likewise, funny that it's a gel liner that is easy to remove at night but it doesn't make my eyes panda looking the whole day. Meaning, it doesn't smudge that much. Cool!
    1. Maybelline gel liner brush - since this comes free, no need to complain. I just forget to put in my gel liner brush in my kit.
  9. Benefit They're real mascara - Most of the mascaras I have tried were from Maybelline's line. It's touted as the best drugstore mascara. More than volume, I love mascaras that provide lengthening... more of natural looking mascaras is what I'm looking for. Then Mrs. Askmewhats gave this to me as another pressie!! I love love love love this! Really makes my lashes look naturally long. And it doesn't clump!
    1. Shiseido eyelash curler - I got this one from Hong Kong. And it works just like the ever famous Shu Uemura eyelash curler.
  10. Tweezers - To pull out unwanted hair from my brows. I don't have my brows waxed or threaded. I don't have that high pain tolerance hehe.
  11. Lab works oil control film -  In the afternoon, I always remove excess and tons of oil through oil control films before I retouch. It's a must to do that before re-applying my foundation to avoid clogged pores.

So that's it! That's how and what I do my make my "game face" at work hahaha!
I make sure to look best amidst the work load. And my peg is... Anne Hathaway from the Devil Wears Prada. Look best, feel best!! Hahahahaha!

Ghetto B

What is the Argan Oil craze all about?

My fascination with argan oil began late last year when I've been reading and seeing women raving about this latest nature wonder on magazines and social media. The only thing I know about it is that it IS EXPENSIVE and the price is worth every cent, due to almost all the testimonials I've read and heard.

Argan oil fast facts

  • Comes from the nuts of the Argan tree, found mostly in Morocco
  • Very HIGHLY VALUED oil because it is very rare and production is limited
  • Highly in demand for cosmetic use

  • Skin benefits

  • It has anti-aging properties which prevents wrinkles, acne, blemishes
  • Helpful in curing burns on the skin
  • Strengthens discolored nails and restores nail bed to health
  • It has Omega 6 and Vitamin F content, which provides moisture. With this moisture, it is easy to turn old skin to a vibrant and new one. So for example if you have acne scars or burns, it will easily heal.

  • Hair benefits

    • Useful in getting rid of dandruff
    • Nourishes your hair by helping prevent split ends and tames frizzy hair
    • Promotes hair growth and prevents hair damage if used properly

With all of these, I'm itiching to try the argan oil craze and I have some products for my hair I've been eyeing for quite some time now.

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

    Snoe Hair Heroes

I'm hessitant to try the argan oil for my face, given that it has tons of healing and skincare benefits. That's why I am trying it on my hair first. One of the reasons that is holding me back is the pricetag of a small bottle of the oil. Kurips!! But then again, skincare shouldn't be scrimped on. It's an investment! Maybe next time if I get extra moolah, I'll save some for argan oil. Second is my sensitive skin .. I'm just not comfortable YET to splashing some oil direct on to my face. Hehehehe! but let's see.. that will be one of my bucket list for 2013.

    Style Star: Miranda Kerr

It's been a while since I shared my favorite style stars. For my first style star for 2013, I want to share my favorite Victoria's Secret angel: Miranda Kerr! I absolutely loooooove her! Aside from she's Mrs. Orlando Bloom, I adore their cuuuuute baby boy! Flynn!! He's the cutest! No doubt about that because you have Orlando Bloom + Miranda Kerr genes in your blood. Amen to that!

    Quick facts:

    Name: Miranda Kerr
    Age: 30 years old
    Nationality: Australian
    Married to: Orlando Bloom
    Son: Flynn Christopher Bloom
Famous for: Being the first Australian Victoria's Secret Angel and replaced Gisele Bundchen
Currently: Mango's Spring/Summer 2013 endorser in which she replaced Kate Moss
Owns her own skincare line: Kora Organics

Miranda Kerr in Victoria's Secret Lingeries. Perfect bod. I love her curves as she is not your typical stick-thin runway model.

Skinny jeans + sheer top + donut bun + leopard loafers = high fashion!

High waisted white pants + printed top = crisp divine-ness

Denim shorts + ballet flats = LA laidback meet NYC

Printed A-line skirt + beige wedges = pretty feminine while doing errands

Black top + Printed pencil skirt + big sunnies = high flying career woman

Breton stripes + colored denim = French chicness

Super peg!!!! Though we are not of the same height, I will always love her street style. Models like her do wear normal outfits like we do. And we do have the same closet staples as her. Eyelovetttt!!!!!

Nails of the Week: Orly Lollipop

I usually get my nails done on weekends, Sunday most of the time, as a "prep" to my week-long work week. Getting pretty nails inspires me to work more, especially on a Monday. We know how Manic Monday sucks so having the best nails is my defense mechanism to start the week right.

I'm not that adventurous when it comes to nails polish because I have polly pocket sized nails so I'm not that into nail art (because of the small nail bed, there's limited room for designs hehe!). Second, I'm more into red, pinks, black/dark blue/dark green/dark violet. My favorite Orly has to be "Country club khaki". That never fails to impress those who get to see it. This is the first time to try something lavander-ish. It was a risk.. not knowing if it will go well with my skin tone. But voila! I'm happy with my choice :)

    Orly Nail Lacquer in Lollipop

Next time, will try on other colors as well. But in the mean time, hope that my lollipop stays on a long time :)

Silka Whitening Lotion in Citrus, Jojoba, and Shea Butter

I want to share with you another innovative product from Silka (proudly Filipino!! Woohoo!!)
Aside from the papaya line which Silka is very known for, they currently have citrus, shea butter, and jojoba variants for their lotion.

I have personally tried, tested, and finished 3 bottles (well not simultaenously hehe!).

    Yay's
    • Not sticky! The Philippines is a tropical country so we need sometheing not greasy.
    • Scents. Each variant has it's own unique scent. I personally like citrus the best. The shea butter reminds me of Bath and Body's shea butter :)
    • It has SPF23. Did you know that even if we are just indoors, the lights can still make one darker? So good thing there's an SPF to protect us from both sunlight and office lights hehe!
    • Price! The smallest bottle is 50ml. Around Php 38.00. There are 100ml and 200ml sizes too.
    Nay's
    • None

Support Filipino-made products!! We do have highly comeptitive Filipino products now in the market. I suggest you give this a try and add on to your skincare regimen. It will never fail you  :)

How to wear: 2013's color of the year - Emerald green

Pantone annouced that the color of the year is Emerald green. Fashionistas, do you know how to wear and incorporate emerald into your wardrobe? I do know how... with a little help from our hollywood celebrities. See below my pegs:

Emma Stone in an emerald green blazer

Jennifer Lopez in a wideleg emerald green pants

Nina Dobrev in a long sleeved shift dress.

    One major fashion tip:
    • Pair your emerald green with one neutral/basic color (White, Black, or Beige). Emma paired her blazer with a pencil cut trousers, J.Lo paired her wideleg with a white top and Nina Dobrev wore beige strappy sandals. This highlights the color more.
    Have a fashionable 2013!!

    Bookworm: 2013 reads

I'm a self-confessed bookworm. I love reading magazines whether it's the latest or backissue. For books, I'm 50-50 into fiction and non-fiction. Last 2012, I have finished these following reads:

Colton Burpo's story moved me! A very short read but will definitely fill up your soul

And yes, I jumped the bandwagon and read Christian Grey and Anastacia Steele's story hehe!

Lauren Conrad's debut novel, LA Candy

I'd like to share to you the following reads I have and will be reading for 2013. Happy nerd!! :p

John Green's The Fault in our Stars. The young ones and young at heart (me!) are into this book. I wanna know what's the fuss about.

David Levithan's Lover's Dictionary. I first saw this book as one of my friends posted this in instagram. She just screen shot a portion. And in a few seconds, I bursted into my oooohsss and awwwwwws. Next to Fifty Shades, I always see this being read by the girlies. So this goes into my must-read list

Malcolm Gladwell's The Outliers. He is very good! His philosophies are interesting. I want to read next his other books like Blink and The Tipping Point. I just finished the 10,000 hours chapter. And he makes sense.

And I got a Lauren Conrad novel as my Christmas Party exchange gift!! Hahaha! The LA Candy kept me hanging... so I need to read this.

Better if I get an eBook because no need to buy the real thing hehe! But sometimes the joy of smelling the pages and flipping it makes the whole reading experience complete. I can stay in a bookstore and browse through the aisles and look for books I want to checkot. I dunno if you feel the same way :) I never thought I'd say this now but reading is feeding your soul. It's good for everyone to read, read, and read! I notice that with the iPads, gadgets, we have now we often forget to do basic things like play outside or read REAL books. So get your bucket list and add one now: READ  A BOOK. A REAL BOOK :p
