Would you Wear: Sandals with Socks

Good morning girlies!

The long weekend holiday is officially over and it's time to work our lazy asses of again hehehehe!

I've been seeing this (weird) trend in glossies lately that fashion-forward fashionistas have been wearing their sky high sandals with socks! Yeah.. you read it right. Sandals with socks. Spells like a perfect concoction of disaster, right? But this trend has been spotted in the runways of like Marni and Alexander Wang.

The last time I remember wearing socks with my sandals was circ late 90s when the Birkenstock was a popular footwear that time and I had to wear my favorite jeans with matching socks to go with it. Hahahaha!! I really can't imagine myself going all over again with it but this time, with legit sandals. Honestly speaking, i'm not fashion forward when it comes to style. I'm mostly the stick to neutrals, basics, and the safe ones when it comes to my wardrobe and this risk is not for me.. unless I'm an Alexa Chung or Leighton Meester who maybe can go with flying colors and not get judged by the fashion police hehehe! :)

One thing is for sure if you want to join the bandwagon: use the paper-thin socks (like those you see in the hosiery section and not the sweat socks you use in your gym or tennis classes hehehe!). And second, IMO, one must wear a heeled sandals and not a flat one to avoid looking a senior citizen :))

Ghetto B Birthday Bash Part 4: Dinner at Claude's Le Cafe de Ville Davao

 Happy Friday Girlies!!!

It's the 5th day of the week... and I'm still talking about food and birthday stuff hahahaha!

Anyways, I was MIA last week because of work. Good thing was that the place where I went is a place where I have a couple of friends. :) I hooked up with them and told them I can go out after working during the day. Shobe, my good old college friend was based in Davao and we booked a dinner date together! It took us forever to decide where to eat.. until we sealed the deal on Claude's Le Cafe de Ville which is a French fine dining resto.

Ghetto B Birthday Bash Part 3: Dinner at Cerchio Restaurant and Lounge

Happy Wednesday Pretties! This is still my week-long food trip birthday special! Haha!

I treated my family to a special dinner one Saturday night. One my "musts" when we eat out is that we try something we haven't eaten yet.  Good thing that day, we were around the Tomas Morato area so I wanted to just stay in the vicinity. Last year, we ate at Romulo Cafe. This year and luckily, another restaurant from the creators of Romulo Cafe (which we love) came to life through Cerchio.

Cerchio (pronounced "tzer kyoh) from what I googled, means round in Italian.. which explains the circle designs in the resto. I made a reservation just hours before so I can be assured we have a seat. Upon arrival, there was valet parking so we didn't have any hassle looking for a parking slot. I loved the interiors, the lighting, the table, and the open kitchen. Cerchio takes pride in the fusion of Mediterr-asian cuisine (Mediterranean + Asian). Since we came from my cousin's 7th birthday party, we were still full so we just ordered a few.

I loved the shrimp and pomelo salad at Romulo cafe and this is like a cousin!
What makes this different is that there's a peanut sauce with cilantro (which I love)

Yummy pulutan over beer! Squids were crunchy with that sweet taste. Once you pop, you can't stop!

Beef Kebab with Rice Pilaf

The beef was tender and it's like eating shawarma beef with rice.

This is like your usual salmon teriyaki but still yummy.

Ghetto B Birthday Bash Part 2: First-ever Surprise Party!

Good Morning Ghettos!

I've been MIA for a week most of the stories I'll be telling in the next few days are birthday-related and food-related. This is the part two of my birthday story hehehe! :)

One my gazillions of wishes is to have a surpirse party. I was never surprised by anyone before. I always think of what the surprised person feels when she sees and hears the word "Surprise!!!" from her loved ones.. whether be it a birthday, congratulatory party, or anything.. as long as it's a surprise.


Lo and Behold..I got the first birthday surprise of my life! I clearly remember it was a tuesday night as I came home early to watch an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Zarah texted that she has something to tell me and I should not sleep. So by 9 pm, I texted her that I'm free to talk over the phone. Then because of my laziness, I didn't change my clothes yet as I was checking work-related emails. I was so into what I was reading I didn't notice the girls sneak in our house and they were singing Happy Birthday!!!!!

Couldn't utter a word. I'm like frozen and pinching myself if this was indeed happening hahahaha!! I saw my birthday cake (with my Lady Gaga face in it.. which was my halloween costume), tons of balloons, and some alcohol and chips :) I was sooo happy I couldn't speak and tears just keep on flowing I'm looking like a kindergarten kid who just cried with a messy face hehehehe! :) I just knew from them that my family indeed knew about it and they just kept their mouth shut. The girls stayed till the clock struck 12 and were the first to greet me on the eve of my special day :)

Though I didn't have any big party this year, I was really happy having dinner with my family and friends and having my first-ever surprise! That's one bucket-list wish off my list. Yey!

Ghetto B Birthday Bash Part 1: Dinner at Borough Restaurant

Happy Mondaya Ghetto Gurls! I'm back! After a week-long hiatus, I'm sooo back! Hehe! I've been very very busy with a lot of things. But I'm back and will be out again until futher notice hehehhee! :)

I know this birthday post is too late.. but I believe it's better to be late than never! Hehe! :) Food trip posts are meant to be shared to everyone so you can try good food and enjoy wonderful conversations while having a hearty meal. Anyways, for my birthday, I decided to stop throwing a small gathering at my place and just go out for dinner with my closest friends. I wanted to try something new and something all of us haven't been to. Then luckily, there's this new restaurant everyone's been buzzing about. Since it's new, I wanted to be the first one to try it first! I first heard of Borough thorough blogs like Manila Fashion Observer and Our Awesome Planet.

Just a quick background, the name Borough is inspired by the 5 boroughs of New York: Brooklyn, Bronx. Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. What's cool about Borough is that it is OPEN 24/7!!! Comfort food 24/7???! Yeah, you read it right! :) They have an entrance inside the mall. But after mall hours, they have an entrance at the side (when you exit from the basement parking). I guess since Ortigas Center has a good number of call center agents, they are targetting these yuppies to hang out in the wee hours of the morning when it's their "lunch break" from work :) I love the ambience because it's very laid back and conducive to talking. The wood planks which were hung on the wall is reminiscent of how NY restaurants are.. like the Borough signage when you enter. It's like how a NY subway station looks like.

We all decided to order and share everything on the table so that we can taste as many entrees as possible.

Brooklyn Cobb Salad
(Grilled chicken covered in melted Monterey Jack, over lettuce and tomato, topped with Bacon and Avocado)

Seared Tuna Salad
(Seared Tuna, Nicoise Olives, Hard boiled egg, Roasted peppers, Anchovies, Green Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, on a bed of mixed greens tossed with Balsamic vinaigrette)

Both salads we loved. But personally. I loved the Brooklyn Cobb :) Bacon, cheese, chicken, and greens was a brilliant idea hehehe!

Cheese-injected Portobello Pita Pocket

(Portobello mushroom oozing with Monterey Jack in a Pita Pocket)

We all love this! Reminds me of how Rachel Ray cooks ;-)

Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup

(Grilled cheese in homemade brioche bread. Served with creamy tomato soup)

I'm a cheese person so I love this. The tomato soup was a good combo.

BBQ Pulled Pork
(Pulled Pork in a homemade Hoagie. Served with coleslaw and borough chips)

Similar to the usual pulled porks we know. Pork is tender. I also love the chips.

NY Strip Steak

(Grilled NY Strip Steak, served with a side of Bernaise sauce and french fries)

We had our steak cooked medium rare. This did not disappoint us :) And the fries too!

Cola Glazed Porkloin

(Seared porkloin, served with chunky apple sauce, creme fraiche, and crispy potato pancakes)

This one is a so-so. Tastes good though but there are other options in the menu that I can order other than this. Too bad some of the entrees are not available.

Sole Amandine

(Sauteed in brown butter, spritzed with lemon juice, capers, and sliced almonds, served with green beans, and jasmine rice)

The fillet was cooked just right. It's was flavorful, juicy and not dry. Serving it with jasmine rice nailed it! :)

Rigatoni Ala Vodka

(Rigatoni tossed in tomato cream sauce and sauteed onions, laced with vodka)

Yummy!! I don't know if it's the vodka but this is great. Too bad when we ordered it again, it isn't available anymore.

Chocolate Chicken Wings

(Wings coated in cocoa and cinnamon, served with cilantro and sour cream)

I'm not into spicy food so this is the least favorite among all. I wasn't able to taste the chocolate in the wings and the cinnamon dominated the taste.

Mom's Milk and Cookies
(Chewy fresh baked cookies. Served with a pitcher of house blend cold milk)

We asked what's the best seller for dessert and they suggested these so we had to try

The milk is served in a creative way! We took our "shots" of fresh milk in each shot glass haha! All of us were able to try the cookies and one shot glass of milk each

He was so nice and cuuuuute! After having pics, he was asking me if we enjoyed the food and a little small talk (which I enjoyed). Of course I said "yes!" with matching twinkling eyes haha!

Above all these, I'm happy to be with my closest friends for my special day :)

Discovery: On Finding Fashion Treasure at Star Mall

Hello sunshines!!!

     One afternoon after a long day at the office, I did not feel like going home yet.  After all, no one was at home to greet me so I thought about spending the afternoon at a nearby mall.  I can do my usual round of "exercise," which is of course shopping!  I invited my friend to come with me, after seducing her with a free hotdog, she agreed to accompany me!  That statment--a way to a man's heart is through his stomach?  I think its applicable to both men and women! Hehe=)

     We decided to go to Starmall, the mall sitting in the corner of Edsa and Shaw blvd and in front of Shangri-la mall.  I so love this mall because everything here is just plainly affordable maybe because it caters to mostly the C Market but well, I don't really mind.  I am excited to shop buying lots and lots of items that costs 10 Php and 20 Php.

     But other than the shops that sells all items at 10Php and 20 Php, I also happen to stumble a pretty fashionable shop.  The shop's name is Joyo.  Here are the stuffs that I bought and boy was it a pretty fun retail therapy! It did not only make me happy, my wallet was in fact, still a bit fat after.  Plus, I got some extra to buy my friend the hotdog that I promised her.  She wanted extra jumbo!  But fortunately, the biggest one was just jumbo.  SO jumbo hotdog on stick it is for the price of *drum roll please*  12 Php, yes pretties only twelve pesos!  We have happy tummies for P12.00  In case you might be wondering what cheap hotdog brand it is? Well, it is Swift Hotdog.

Yay or Nay: L'oreal Brow Stylist in Light Brown

Good morning friendships! :)

I have thick and dark brows ever since I was a kid. I'm even too lazy to pluck it every once in a while because everytime I do it, it bleeds! *eeew!* For some reason, I went to this parlor somewhere in the province while on a business trip and the person who shaved my eyebrows went overboard and made it soooo thin! :-( I just told him to clean it and not to finish it all off hahaha! I consulted my go-to person when it comes to makeup, dear Nikki of Askmewhats. Even she couldn't believe it that I my thick brows from just months ago became thin! She suggested that I use a slanted brush and a matte brown eyeshadow (good thing I have a dark brown one from L'oreal HIP's Shady).

Just last weekend, after going to church, I decided to drop by the weekend bazaar at the Big Tent near our village. There was this stall who sold cheap drugstore makeup from the States. Since I went before the bazaar closed, I was given further discount! I was eyeing the L'oreal 3-in-1 brow stylist in Light Brown. The seller was nice and from Php 250, he gave it to me for Php 200! It was a steal so I already grabbed it. If only I didn't have enough L'oreal HIP shadows, I would've bought some! He was only selling  it for Php 250!

• Innovative product for having a pull-out tweezer, powder eyebrow pencil, and brow brush all in one!
• I love the result! I do get the right thickness of the brows that I want and don't get to look a adolescent kid with bushy brows haha!
• The shade complements me well. Even though I have jet black hair, it looks like natural on me
• Very easy to use and multi-tasking. You can brush the brow hair, pluck some little ones, and fill your brows all the same time. No need to get a spoolie brush and a tweezer! :)

Nay's

• I'm not sure if this is a factor but since it's a powder pencil/crayon, with just a few swipes, the pencil gets blunt easily. So I have to sharpen it again. And since the pencil is not that long, I think this will not last me a long time
• I'm not sure if this is available locally since I bought this at a bazaar.

Sorry for the amateur pics! I have a very oily face that day and I'm too lazy to put on some powder and concealer so as to able to show my eyes hahaha! But do you see the drift? The result is lovely! Having thick brows makes a person look younger :) Even if im ____ years old now, I think I can still pass as a teener if I sport this brows :) Hahaha!
