Random Musings: When to let go?

Today I'm gonna share again another random musing of mine. I have this since 2004 and I kept it because I know it's definitely worth sharing because it's really really true! Also, I thought before that maybe one day, I have to re-read it to refresh my memory of the lesson it imparts (SO TRUE!) Well, I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to this in one way or another. This one doesn't need any intro or explanation because as it is, it already pierces straight to your heart.

Don't we all wish something "so good" could be forever? Don't we all hope that happiness is there to stay?


There comes a time in our lives when we chance upon someone "so nice" and "almost perfect" and we just find ourselves getting so intensely attracted to that person (sometimes without even realizing it). This feeling soon become a part of our everyday lives and eventually guzzles our thoughts and actions to the extent that we tagged it as one of those "too good to be true" thing.


The sad part there is when we begin to realize that, this particular person feels totally nothing but friendship. A "thing" that would be forever a "thing" nothing more, nothing less... just a thing! You're just a friend, and that's the fact! Then in our desperate attempt to get closer (or at least be noticed), our efforts are still futile and we end up sorry for ourselves.


One person said, never ever let your heart run your life, as much as you can, always be sensible and let your mind speak for itself. Try to listen not merely on what your feelings is invoking on you as a person but more importantly listen to reason as well. Letting go of someone doesn't necessarily mean you have to stop loving, it only means that you allow that person to find his own happiness without expecting him to come back.


Letting go is not just setting the other person free (in the real sense of it), but it is also setting yourself free from all animosity, revulsion, and resentment that was long kept in your heart. You have to let go because the bitterness often puts away the strengths and weakens the littlest hope, making our lives more miserable than ever. Worst, presenting yourself as the "most affected one" sets the nastiest impression of all time--whatta a loser!


The trick there is...always remember that if you lose someone today, it means that someone better is coming tomorrow.


If you lose love that doesn't mean that you failed in love...right? Just regard it as another mismatch of heaven! Well, you can cry of course, or whine or shout (growl even) if you have to, but make sure that after those outbursts you have washed away the hurt and the bitterness that the past has left with you (easy said than done I know!).


We can all survive with just beautiful memories of the past but real peace and happiness come only with open acceptance of what reality is today. You really don't have to forget someone you love ('cause it's hard). What we need to learn is how to accept the verdict of reality without being bitter or sorry for what we have become. I think it's better that we give off that dedication and love to someone more deserving. Hmmm..."Who could it be" is the next interesting question to ponder.


Let go of yesterday and love will find its way back to you. And when it does, pray hard that it may be the love that will stay and last a lifetime.

A Very Affordable and Fabolous Nail Polish Discovery: Chic Classics Nail Color

Good Morning Sweets! As promised, this is the second half of my posts about nail polishes. Yesterday, I shared to you my opinion on the must-have nail polish colors and I kept you hanging on the "secret brand" I discovered.

While mother was scouting for a box of hair color, I wandered around the Health & Beauty section. I spotted the nail polishes because the unusual colors striked me. The salmon-pink / salmon-orange color I've been hunting for months... I saw!! It's from a brand named Chic Classics Nail Color. And the best part is the PRICE! Guess how much????! It just retails for... Php 27.75!!!! Like a girl in a candy store, I was amazed by the variety of colors they have! I know that I'm not a nail polish girl but it's cool to have some must-have colors while I take advantage of the affordable price Chic polishes have. I knew this brand when I was a kid when my mom goes to the parlor and gets her nails done. It's an old-school, drug store brand like Caronia, long before the Elianto and The Face Shop nail polishes ruled.

Some disclaimers first:

#1: Pardon the pictures since I don't have a professional camera and I tried my best to give the best pic with the best lighting. Some of the colors really look different in person than what it came out in the pictures but I'll try my best to explain it in words

#2: I really want to give more pictures with the nail polish on my hands but my camera-shy hands only wants 1 pic hehehehe! :)

It really looks different here but the difference between the two is the Neon Fuschia is more of your neon pink Stabilo highlighter while the Neon Pink is more of your salmon orangey pink Stabilo highlighter. Price: Php 27.75

From Left to Right: Tea Rose, African Plum

The Tea Rose is more of your crimson red kind of red..like a bloody red! The African Plum on the other hand is not black but a very deep plum/violet color. Hmm.. imagine a Welch's grape juice color. Price: Php 24.75

Top Coat

Does this remind you of The Face Shop's top coat? Looks the same, right??! Price: Php 32.75

Since I only bought 4 polishes, I wanted all my nails to get polished so I used my ever-reliable The Face Shop pink-nude color on my pinky ;-)

Voila!! Here are the polishes on my tiny nails :) Sorry but this is the best I can give. You can check out the colors in person by going to the nearest Health & Beauty section of the department store or any Watsons branch. :)

Yay's

• Very affordable!!! From Php 24.75 to Php 32.75! What more can you ask for??!
• The new range of colors. I knew this from way before and they only had the old-school pearly, frosty colors but now they have all sorts like the neons, the blues, yellows etc.
• I like that the brush is thin because it just swipes perfectly within my nails :)
• Works and performs just like the expensive and branded counterparts!

Nay's

• Nothing that I know of.. yet! But I'll share next time if the polishes chip off quickly.

So for all the girls out there who wants to save up but still get the fantastic colors like Elianto, The Face Shop, Orly, or OPI, you may want to check out the color range of Chic Classic Polish :-) Definitely yay and definitely worth it!

A Girl's Must-Have Nail Polish Colors

Happy first day of the week ghetto gurls!! Today's a Monday and we all hate Mondays, don't we? But nah, we should start the week with a bright bright smile like this.. :D

I have a secret to share! It's only between of us okay? Promise??? Okay here it is... I'm not proud of my nails. Hahaha! Seriously I do! They're too tiny.. polly pocket tiny like tinkerbell's! That's why I don't usually have my nails done because when I do, I feel like I'm a kid playing dress up and using the nail polish of her mom who is away :)) It's an effort for me to grow my nails long and get it painted. I only have one polish I use over and over again if I want to have my nails colored. It's the pink-nude colored one from The Face Shop (and The Face Shop Top Coat too). I make it a point to buy one when my stock dries up. I also bought a bloody red color before as well to try having red nails. But this one is my go-to shade always. I may sound corny that I'm not adventuruous but who cares??! Hehe!

If I were asked to choose nail polish colors every girl must-have, I will pick five colors. Here's the rundown:

RED
I really like Olivia Palermo as she's very chic and stylish! Reminds me of Blair Waldorf :-) Red nails will never go out of style. Looks good as well when you are to go on a formal event. I personally think that red makes your hands more flawless. In this picture, Olivia wore a red-orange shade and not a bloody red / crimson one

PINK

Pink is an essential color for all the girlies.. especially to those who want to channel their inner Elle Woods! It screams cute and dainty. Depending on the shade from the light ones to the fuschia or the neons, a certain pink will match your personality. Below is R&B singer Ciara with her fuschia nails. Honestly, I know I'm not a nail polish person but I've been hunting down a salmon-pink kind of shade. Then I knew OPI has it but for my tiny nails, Php 350 is kinda pricey for me to afford. Well but there's good news!! I met my match!! A super affordable polish with the same colors as The Face Shop or OPI. I'll surprise you next post on what it is. :)

NUDE

So great minds think alike??! Jennifer Aniston and I share the same mantra! We like to keep it simple! hehehe :) Kidding aside, having a nude color is essential. You might think that it's a waste of money since you're buying a color that is almost a color but not quite. But if you think about it, it's a go-to color when you are not sure if you're nails are appropriate to an event you are going to like an office meeting, wedding reception, or a formal dinner. This color is your safest choice if you want to look like you just had a french tip. It's clean and simple. Period.

BLACK/DARK BLUES OR GREENS/DEEP PLUM

When I see hollywood celebs wearing rocker chick/ emo black nail polish, I'm really intrigued how they pull it off even if they're not dressing up Avant Garde. The trick with these colors (the black, plums, dark blues or greens) is that you should wear it with short nails.

It will look like you are witch if you sport it long nails hehehe!

put some shiny gloss on top of her polish. Cool isn't it??!

TAUPE

First things first. Taupe is kind of a neutral color more on the grayish-brown like the mushrooms. You can call this mushroom taupe. Anyways, after seeing Demi Moore wear this (and she looks regal and fantabolous in this), I'd want to scout a mushroom taupe for myself!

Me being the neutral colored person, I'd like to have a sample of this one.

This can be the alternate for my pink-nude color shadow :)

With the wide variety of colors out in the market right now, you can't help to just focus on 5 shades. What I'm saying is that these colors are the ones I'd prioritize having. Don't limit yourself to these colors but explore and wear colors that make you happy and colors that matches your personality. If you like green then wear green or yellow or purple! Try different shades, try it with nail art as well.

Yay or Nay: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Baby Pink

TGIF ghetto gurls! Are you ready once again for the weekend? :)

I've been thinking for months. Literally months.. on what brand does Liz Uy, Ruffa Guttierez, and all the local showbiz personalities use when I see them on tv with a barbie pink lip color. Then I learned that the culprit is the MAC Pink Nouveau and Shu Uemura's PK 344. I've visited the MAC Shangri-La counter twice to try it out and once at the MAC store at Vivo Mall Singapore and weigh myself if I like it or not. I've already crossed out Shu Uemura because I could not and would not cough up Php 1,350 for a lipstick hehehe! MAC is around Php 950. It's cheaper than Shu but still pricey so I have to think over and over again if it's worth it or not. I have this "rule" that it's okay to splurge as long that it's something classic, something not just a trend, and something you can use over & over again... like a classic lipstick that can take you from day to night. I think that this pink lipstick craze that I have now is only because of what I want and not what I need.

Then I read from my dearest Askmewhats about her take on the Revlon Colorburst lipsticks. I've also seen this many times from the billboards and lighted signages at the malls because it is Jessica Alba who is the face of the Revlon Colorburst lipstick. So when I got the chance to stop by a Revlon counter, I was glued in my seat :) I saw the wide array of shades. And for just a fraction of what MAC Pink Nouveau costs, I'm leaning of getting one already. Then after much thinking and sales talk from the girl, I finally gave in and bought my own Revlon Colorburst in Baby Pink!

Yay's

• Afforable for only Php 575.00!
• This is the closest dupe to MAC Pink Nouveau (in my opinion based on how MAC Pink Nouveau looked in my lips). More of the barbie pink shade. I've tried the Carnation but the Baby Pink is lighter and more Barbie Pink-ish like the MAC Pink Nouveau. I've also read some reviews that this one is also a dupe of the MAC Viva Glam Gaga
• I was told they have 20 shades! Top of mind shades I can remember now are Lilac, Mauve, True Red, Fuschia. They have shades from neutrals to the pinks. Pick your poison!
• Truly pigmented. The color you see on the tube is the one that appears when you swipe it.
• I like that it has moisture in it so my lips doesn't feel dry.
• I love the new design. The matte tube with the lip color at the top of the cover is a good idea. So you don't have to turn the tube down for the color name or open it. The matte / smooth feel of the tube reminds me of the MAC
  

Nay's

• Unlike MAC Pink Nouveau which is more on the matte side, Revlon Baby Pink has lil bit of shimmer or frosty which I can't properly describe. But Nikki gave a good tip that if you want to have it matte, pat your lips after your first application and swipe your lips again for a second one :-)

Additional notes

I can't say about the staying power yet since after I swiped from the tester, I wasn't able to check how it looked after eating. Their selling point is more of the color and not the staying power . I haven't taken a picture of myself with this one so I'll get back on this next time on how it looks on me.

Revlon Colorburst in Baby Pink is definitely a YAY with only one nay! :) Visit a Revlon Beauty Counter in leading department stores or Watson's and check it out.

Food Trip: Father's Day Lunch at Pino Resto Bar

Good morning girls! I'd like to share with you how my family celebrated Father's Day. My brother treated the family to lunch because he already got his first pay from his first job!! He wanted to eat somewhere he hasn't eaten yet. He asked me for some choices so he can trim it down. I told him we have to reserve asap because we are anticipating the influx of families eating out to celebrate Father's day. Then after much deliberation, we reserved at a nearby resto (as we don't want to go to the malls already) that we've been hearing much raves about - - - -

Pino Resto Bar!

It was a good idea to reserve the night before because when we arrived, I think they're not allowing walk-in customers anymore because it's already packed with families celebrating Father's Day. I like the ambience, the courteous staff, the cleanliness, and the interiors as well (they have this doodle wall with an intricate artwork).

I forgot to get the prices of each entree but I tell you, we just paid Php 1,750 for everything we've ordered!!!! We even took home some because we really couldn't finish it with the big servings!

Tempura Oysters and Pearls.

This is D.I.V.I.N.E!! I love the wasabi oysters! I don't eat wasabi ever but this is great!

There's a tinge of wasabi in the batter of the oyster. Must-try!

Wasabi Onion Rings.

Like the batter of the oysters, this one has a tinge of wasabi as well. Delish!

Pino Iced Tea Pitcher.

We had 3 pitchers of their in-house iced tea! Yummmy!

Red Wine Adobong Tadyang.

This is what I ordered. The meat is very tender.

I love the sweet taste of their Adobo. With the fancy presentation,

I couldn't help but feel I'm a judge at the Iron Chef America :)

Kare kareng Bagnet.

My brother ordered this. He loves loves loves it. 3 slabs of big

bagnet and he couldn't finish it. Peanut sauce is

yummy combined with the bagoong rice.

Bacon and Cheese-stuffed Chicken Breast.

My brother who took care of the bill ordered this. He said it's

like chicken cordon bleu. Upon first bite, he just said

"mmmmm. yummm..mmmm!" Hahaha!

Tuna Shitake Pasta.

This is what mother ordered. But she mistakenly ate dad's pasta. So they

exchanged plates after her order arrived. She liked the Gambas and

Squid Aligue Paste better (according to her). So they just

shared pastas haha! At first she thought the serving is too small but in

the end, it was indeed heavy and wasn't able to finish everything.

As mother and father said, they like this better than the Tuna Shitake Pasta.

Maybe because of the flavorful aligue. I love aligue even if

it's full of cholesterol :-) Having it once in a while doesn't hurt! :)

Pino Choco Turon.

Of course we still have room for dessert! We just got one order of this to be

shared by everyone. It's mini turon (size of a lumpiang shanghai) and it has

banana and chocnut inside with vanilla ice cream on top. Size is just right

and good to share for 5! Another yumm!!

What to wear on a first date: Looks from Forever 21

Bonjour! Ohayo! Buon Giorno! Magandang Umaga! Good Morning!! :) I'm in the mood to greet all the girlies out there in several languages like French, Japanese, Italian, Filipino, and English. Haha!! Kidding :)

How I wish Forever 21 gets to open here in Manila soon!!! I always make it a point to visit the Forever 21 website and drool over their new arrivals all the time. All their pieces are really fashionable, affordable, and they have a wide variety of items to choose from! From footwear, dresses, tops, accessories etc! I remember staying in a Forever 21 outlet store and didn't realize that I was already there for more than 1 hour with a friend and her son waiting for me like forever hahaha! :)

Today, I'm in the mood to imagine several looks I'd like to wear on a first date. *Let's not talk about MY dating life/love life in here hahaha!!* Anyways, should I get a date soon *wink*, here are the looks I'd go for. Since it's a first date, I don't want to go all-out and look super duper prepared. I would like to look casual yet polished. The second date onwards is a different story! For now, let's just focus on a first date :)

Look#1: Dinner out look

First impressions last. So we should prepare for that moment when your date glances at you for the first time. The goal is.. you must be able to drop his jaw open and smiling all night long after seeing the prettiest girl of the night! And of course after the date is over, he would text his friends and the feedback he must give is: "I can't wait for a second date with her!" I'm leaving the heels, dressy dresses, and the ironed or curled hair for the next date. :) For this first dinner date look, I mixed girly and boyish looks - Tulip skirt paired with oxfords flats; dangling earrings and a hair tied in a ponytail.

Would You Wear: Dior Eyes

Wow! I did not actually come to think that one day, even our eyes will be fashionable. Yes, I know there are colored contact lens that will make eyes colorful, the doll eye contact lens that makes asian eyes look bigger, but do you know that there is also a designer contact lens? Its not from LV as you might think but its from Christian Dior!

Christian Dior has expanded their fashion line from clothing, shoes, bag, cosmetics, perfume and now contact lenses! These new CD colored contact lenses feature glitter, gold and black design encircles the iris. Of course, there is a Christian Dior Logo in the contact lens itself!

Well now, I can really say that "Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder!"

If Christian Dior will give me the contact lens for free, I will definitely wear them and look people straight in the eyes. *laughs*

Fashion Inspiration: Top 5 Movies and Characters that Rocked my Fashion World

I love watching movies! It is my favorite past time. And because I love movies so much, I guess it has played an important role in my life. Movies has been a source of fun, relaxation, escape, influence and inspiration in my life may it be personal or fashional.Lol! But seriously, I'm right, right? My family and I watched Toy Story 3 last night(thanks to Citibank). But it was more of for my daughter, I was actually wishing that I'll be watching SATC2 instead.

Surprisingly though, I enjoyed the movie, every second of it! It is safe to say that the movie was fantastic and I can even say it is one of Pixar's best movie ever. It just took my breath away and took some tears off my eyes too. I'm not gonna tell you how it ended but it was very touching.

Toy Story 3 is about the memories, the passing time(we can see andy growing up here) and how you treat people around you. In this movie, you will find yourself amused with the characters, lots of giggling and heartfelt mix of sugar and spice.

So what are you waiting for? Even if you are not a kid, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this movie. It's worth watching. And do you know? It has been 15 years since Toy Story 1.

Food for Thought: Max's Chicken All You Can

Hi sunshines!

Summer time is over! So I guess its time to keep our bikinis once more because we are not going to the beach anytime soon. Aaaaand I guess its also time to drop the diet mode and time to make our tummy happy!!! With this, allow me to be the bearer of good news.

Do you know that Max's Restaurant is celebrating their 65th birthday by giving out the chicken-all-you-can promo for only P165??? Yes ladies and gentlemen, all that yummy to the bones golden brown delicious chicken for only P165 and by ALL, I mean all you can eat, ok? Not all you can take home=)

The promo has started yesterday June 17, 2010 and will run until July 17, 2010 and is available in all Max's Restaurant Nationwide. They will be serving quarter sliced chicken to all diners from 6:00PM to 10:00 PM and you know whats more? Drink all you can Pepsi products will be available for only Php 39 to complete you meal.

Happy Friday pretties! Can you believe that you made it to the end of the week??! :)

I'm a pendant person. I like wearing necklaces with pendants. 3 of my favorite pendants were gifts to me. I don't know if my friends researched the meaning of these pendants for me but I'm happy to have to attract all the good vibes I can get. What is an acidic skin?

Good morning girlaloos! Do you have a smile on your face? :) If not, then better plaster one to attract good vibes early in the morning :-)

Today I'm gonna share with you the idea of an acidic skin. Maybe you are wondering..what the hell is an acidic skin???! Well, to explain in layman's terms, you have an acidic skin when your face (with foundation) turns darker after a few hours or when your face gets oily.

I've done some web research on this and my friend Nikki of Askmewhats gave me some information about it (Not so long ago, she used my face acidic and oily face as her blank canvass when she was practicing makeup before hehehe!). Reading a couple of resources online, oily faced people are most likely prone to having the skin turn darker because the oil/sebum being produced.

I'm oily faced and acidic. I made the mistake before of buying a foundation with the same shade as my skintone. I bought a MAC Studio Fix NC42 and after hours, I noticed that my foundation turned darker than when I first applied it. I also noted similar comments from different people. They always told me if I went to the beach because I looked darker. From then on, I realized that I have acidic skin. With the help of research and Nikki, here are the tips I've known that I'd like to share with you:

• I should use a foundation shade, one tone lighter than my skin tone so that my face will match my skin tone once my face gets oily and acidic. From NC42, I went for NC40 and it was the perfect match! I don't look like I went to the beach on a rainy season hehe!
• To counteract oiliness, I used a makeup base / primer to keep my face from being oily. Smashbox Photofinish primer works wonders!!
• Scout for good deals!!! I use an alternative foundation for my MAC NC40. Maybelline Mineral Foundation in Dark Ochre is an cheapo foundation that works like a MAC NC40 for me! For the makeup primer, I use a Skin 79 BB Cream in Gold Caviar as an everyday moisturzier/skincare/makeup base all-in-one!

Ghetto B gets a haircut at Antonio Hairdressing

I didn't realize time flew so fast! The last time I had a haircut was around last week of February / first week of March. My hair grew so long and I wanted to welcome the second half of the year with a new 'do!

I went again to my newly trusted stylist, Gretchen of Antonio Hairdressing to chop off my locks. She's really really good and understands my bleak explanation of what I want for my hair. I just say to her "Gretchen, gusto ko parang Mariel Rodriguez layer ha?" (Gretchen, I want a layered hairstyle just Mariel Rodriguez) Btw, Mariel Rodriguez is a popular TV-Host actress here in the Philippines. I know that she also goes to Antonio Hairdressing and Salon de Manila for her hair but in a different branch.

Anyways, since my hair also needs a treatment, I got one as well. Afterwhich, my stylist cut my hair in precision. She carefully and meticulously layered my hair from the inside and I saw her use the scissors with great talent! hehe :) After 2 hours, I'm done. It took that long even if I'm the only customer she's attending to because she wanted to make sure that I get the perfect haircut and the best treatment after. She also gave me some tips after how to maintain my new 'do :)
