We were fortunate enough that our dear colleague, Askmewhats, managed to sneak us in the launching of Freeway's Ang Kiukok collection series at The Row, Greenbelt 5.

Before the actual event started, we had our pictures taken at the red carpet with the Freeway tarpaulin backdrop. Feeling celebs! :)

While waiting, we enjoyed the cocktails being served, courtesy of Mangan. We had camote fritters, bibingka, lumpia, and iced tea.

Entering The Row, several Ang Kiukok masterpieces were hung on the walls together with the new collection to be featured. I first knew/heard of Ang Kiukok with the 80's movie "Romeo Loves Juliet" starring Rene Requiestas, Panchito, AiAi delas Alas, Keempee de Leon and Aiko Melendez (talk about ghettoness right??! haha! Laughtrip pa rin talaga everytime I catch this flick in Cinema One). Anyways, he's really a gifted artist.. and a proclaimed National Artist in 2001. We got to know how Ang Kiukok was in the eyes of his close friends, and among which, was Joey de Leon, who was an Ang Kiukok collector as well. There was a Q&A portion where his daughter, Jocas de Leon, asked him about his thoughts, some experiences with the late artist. He mentioned that he has this wall in his house full of Ang's paintings and his children grew up with Ang's artworks in their house.

Anyways, I was really mesmerized with how Freeway came up with the Ang Kiukok collection because everything was just fab!!! I love the tees! The fabric feels sooooo soft and comfy just by looking at it. The artworks chosen to be printed in the tops were perfect. They have incorporated Ang's artworks with other pieces such as t-shirt dresses and boyfriend tops both for casual and rugged occassions.

Of course, the ghetto gurls will not go home without a ghetto moment! We had our pics taken with Joey and Jocas hehehehehe! :)

Thanks again to Askmewhats for inviting us to the Freeway Ang Kiukok launch :) XOXO from the Ghetto Gurls!
